On PCB, there are two methods for fixing components: vertical and horizontal devices. Horizontal refers to the axis direction of the component being parallel to the PCB surface, while vertical refers to being perpendicular. These two methods each have their own characteristics, and when planning PCBs, one should be sensitive to the principles and be able to choose between them, or use both methods simultaneously. But it is necessary to ensure that the circuit has good anti vibration performance, the device is easy to maintain, the components are evenly placed, and it is conducive to the layout of printed wires.
Vertical installation
Vertical fixed components occupy a small area and can accommodate a large number of components on a unit board. This device method is suitable for products with densely packed and compact components, such as semiconductor radios, hearing aids, etc. Many small portable devices also commonly use the vertical device method for external components. Vertical fixed components require small volume and light weight, and components that are too large or heavy should not be installed vertically. Otherwise, the mechanical strength of the whole machine will deteriorate, the anti vibration ability will be weakened, and the components will simply collapse and collide with each other, reducing the reliability of the circuit.

Horizontal installation
Compared with vertical fixation, horizontal devices for electronic components have advantages such as good mechanical stability and regular placement on the board. Horizontal fixation increases the span of components, making it easy to trace wires between two solder joints, which is very advantageous for laying printed conductors.
Components should be evenly, neatly, and compactly placed on the printed circuit board, minimizing and shortening the leads and connections between each unit circuit and each component. There are two ways to arrange components on a PCB: irregular and regular. These two methods can be used separately or simultaneously on the PCB.
